The Tropics Earn Their First Win With a One-Hit Shut Out of the Local Legends

The Trifectom Tropics earn their first win of the season riding the back of two stellar pitching performances and an explosive fourth inning.

The scoring began when Connor Ostrander (Western Michigan) led off the top of the second with a walk, which was followed by a double from Peyton Back (Bellarmine University). Chase Mason’s (Carl Sandburg College). sac fly scored Ostrander, to begin the game with a 1-0 lead for the Trifectom Tropics.

In the top of the fourth, the Tropics struck again with a lead off hit-by-pitch to Austin Reed (University of Alabama Huntsville) which was followed by a single from Keaton Mahan  (Ohio State University).  Dalton Back’s (Miami Ohio) double then scored Reed, while Connor Ostrander collected a hit that scored Mahan. The final run of the inning came from Peyton Back’s sac fly which scored Dalton Back.

On the other side of the ball, Jack Bruington (Carl Sandburg College) started the game for the Tropics, pitching two hitless innings to gain momentum early. He collected one strikeout while only giving up one  walk. Luke Shelton (Lincoln Trail) entered the game in the third inning, and he would go the distance as he gave up just one hit, two strikeouts over his five innings of work.

For the Local Legends, their only hit came in the six inning from Quentin Markle (Butler University) with a single to left field. Over five innings of work, starting pitcher Karl Meyer (MIT) racked up 4 strikeouts, while Enas Hayden (Purdue Fort Wayne) added two of his own K’s in sixth and seventh.

The Tropics will be back in action again on Thursday at 6:30 P.M. to take on the Chatham Hills Turf Monsters (1-1).
