Moonshots win with the help of strong pitching on  Opening day shutting out the Local Legends

Opening Day for the Moon Shots is in the books, the Moon Shots had their offense rolling even though they only had 3 hits. The pitching staff pitched great allowing only 2 hits and striking out 8 through 7 innings. In the end the Moon Shots won 7 to 0 against the Local Legends.

The Moon Shots faced Michael Hoppel a RS Jr at Wabash College in his first start on the mound, in the top of the first Max Weller a sophomore at Arizona Western lead off with a fly ball double to right field. However, he would not advance past second at the end of the first. The starting pitcher for the Moon Shots was Dominque Boggs (transfer portal, 3 years). Boggs was a little wild to start walking the lead off hitter, but he picked off the runner when he tried to steal second. He then stuck out the next two hitters. The Moon Shots got on the board in the top of the second when Slade Netterville, a freshman at Louisiana Tech University walked and then stole second and took third with a pitch in the dirt. Slade came home from and RBI ground out hit by Sebastian Parchomenko (transfer portal, 3 years). In the bottom of the second Boggs walked one and then stuck out 2 more.

The Moon Shots tacked on two more runs with a RBI single from Karter Hann a Sophomore at Purdue Fort Wayne. In the bottom of the third Boggs picked up 2 more strikeouts ending with 6 on the night. The Moon Shots go down in order in the top of the fourth, in the bottom of the fourth got cut short when there was a rain delay called, Easton Good a red shirt freshman at Miami Ohio University hit a double and then Parker Harrison walked before the rain delayed was called. The game resumed around 6:30 with a new pitcher on the mound for the Moon Shots, Wyatt Phillips a red shirt junior from University of Indianapolis took over, he was able to get out of a jam stranding the runners. Max Weller and Caleb Vaughn a JR at University of Indianapolis drew a pair of walks, then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Carson Husmann grounded out to short to bring home Max Weller in the top of the fifth. Phillips stuck out two, and gave up a single to Luke Hellman a freshman at IU. Grant Martin drove in Hann on a Sac Fly in the top of the sixth inning. The Local legends were quiet in the bottom of the sixth with Connor Gordon getting a hit by pitch.

The Moon Shots were threatening in the top of the 7th, Holloway and Schmidt both walking before Clay Holzworth was able to strike two out and induce a weak grounder to third to get out of the inning. Kyle Downard a RS JR at Saint Xavier University was able to close it out with a game ending double play. Pretty good display from the Moon Shots today, good pitching and working hitters counts helped win the first game of the season.
