Local Legends Leave the Moon Shots Hitless
The scoreboard did not show a high octane offensive game, but it was an entertaining one on Tuesday night to kick-off Grand Park After Dark. An incredible pitching duel took place as the game only saw two hits.
Despite some offensive woes, the pitching and defense of the Local Legends carried the team to the win and back to .500 in league play. Karl Meyer (MIT) got the start and win after a stellar 11 strikeout performance through 5 innings of work. Offensively, the lone run of the game came in the bottom of the 1st inning by outfielder Quentin Markle (Butler). Markle started the inning with a single, before scoring on a bases-loaded walk to Parker Harrison (Wright State) just five hitters later.
After Meyer received the run support, he was relentless in holding the lead. Following his five innings of carving up Moon Shots hitters, Will Eldridge (IWU) made his first appearance of the season. Eldridge made his abilities known by controlling Moon Shots hitters with his heavy fastball and sharp slider for 3 innings of hitless work.
To cap off the no-hitter effort, E.J. White (Transfer Portal) came in for the save in the 9th inning. The incredible game was capped off with a huge caught stealing by catcher David Novak (Miami – OH).
