Snapping Turtles Shut-Out League Leading Turf Monsters 10-0 for Second-Straight Win

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The Lids Snapping Turtles dominated the Chatham Hills Turf Monsters Tuesday night, run-ruling the league-leaders 10-0 in five innings for their third win in the last four games! The Turts last three wins have all been shut-outs! The Snapping Turtles improved to 10-14 with the win and the Turf Monsters fell to 14-9.

Snapping Turtles starting pitcher Landon Lee (Purdue Northwest) earned the win Tuesday night, throwing all five innings and allowing three hits while striking out five. Lee found himself in a jam on a couple occasions but timely pitching helped him to remain unscathed.

Gabe Wright (Jndian River) singled with one-out in the first but a 3-6-3 DP erased Wright. Lee worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the first to keep it scoreless after one inning.

Zaid Walker (Transfer Portal) led off the second inning with a single and Tarron Lawson (Eastern Illinois) followed with a HBP. Garret Gray (Butler) came through with a single through the right-side to score Walker and Matt Hmielewski (Briar Cliff) singled a batter later to score Lawson and give the Snapping Turtles a 2-0 lead.

Gray scored via wild pitch later in the inning and Noah Wolf (Lincoln Trail), who reached on a fielder’s choice and stole third base, also scored on a wild pitch in the inning to give the Snapping Turtles a 4-0 lead.

Landon Lee ran into trouble in the second inning, but was able to help himself with a successful pick-off attempt in an inning in which the Turf Monsters stranded the bases loaded.

The first four Turtle hitters reached base in the top of the third. Gabe Wright singled and Alex Marx (Indiana State) and Zaid Walker drew walks before Tarron Lawson delivered an RBI single to extend the lead. Marx came into score on a double-play ball to make it a 6-0 Snapping Turtle lead!

Lee once again was forced to pitch out of trouble in the third inning. This time Lee struck out a man and induced a ground-ball out to escape another bases loaded jam!

Noah Wolf, Zach Fell (U of Indianapolis), and Malik Peters (Northern Illinois) worked consecutive one-out walks to load the bases in the top of the fourth. Gabe Wright came through with a sac-fly to right-field, scoring Wolf. Walker followed with a 2-RBI single for his second hit of the night before Lawson followed with an RBI single of his own, putting the Snapping Turtles in run-rule territory with a 10-0 lead.

Landon Lee worked a 1-2-3 fourth inning and the Turts went down in order in the top of the fifth. Lee was able to pitch around a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth to retire the side and close out the Snapping Turtles 10-0 victory over the league-leading Turf Monsters.
