The Farmers Bank Bomb Squad recorded its fourth consecutive win Tuesday night at Grand Park After Dark defeating the Bag Bandits by a final score of 7-1.

Incoming freshman Carter McFarland (Ashland University) made his second start of the season and after giving up one run in the first inning, settled in and threw six consecutive shutout innings. McFarland finished the night going seven innings with five strikeouts, five hits, one walk, and one run given up. In his last two outings, McFarland has thrown 10 innings while giving up just two earned runs on nine hits and three walks.

Tyler Helgeson (Eastern Michigan University) came in for the final two innings and earned his second save of the season. Helgeson made quick work of the Bag Bandits, giving up just one walk and no hits.

Offensively the Bomb Squad struggled early but were able to get things going late scoring six runs in the final three innings of the game. MIF Evan Fauquher (Hillsdale College) recorded three hits on the night including an RBI single in the top of the 7th that would give the Bomb Squad its first lead of the game.

Travis Reaves (Transfer Portal) and Curtis Washington Jr. (Purdue University) each recorded two hits, a walk, and a stolen base a piece. Washington Jr. tied the game in the 6th with an RBI triple after Ryan Mollette (Lincoln Trail) led the inning off with a walk.

Getting the start at third, Jake Winzenread (Anderson University) had a nice game both at the plate and defensively. Winzenread drove in two runs on a line drive single to centerfield to extend the Bomb Squad’s lead to 4-1. The Bomb Squad’s final three runs of the game came from a bases clearing triple from Grant Trinkle (John A. Logan) in the top of the 9th.

The Bomb Squad will play under the lights again at Grand Park After Dark on Thursday, June 16 against the Snapping Turtles at 9:30 on field D-03.
